Synopsis

The minions trailer begins with an introduction of the minions and displays them as waddling from the water to the beach, while the narrator tells the story; all throughout as the minions don't speak English. Immediately, the audience are informed that the minions are all on a mission to obtain an evil master. The genre is established through the comedy of the minions discovering a master and then losing him pretty much straight away. Colour also establishes the genre because it is bright and highly saturated rather than gloomy and depressing like it would be in a horror movie. The compression of time becomes apparent in each scene of the trailer, as the cuts in the editing illustrates a new location of the minions journey. After their first failure of finding a master, the music becomes upbeat, and stops again at another one of their failed attempts; this is comical and brings upon laughter in the audience. Titles introduce the time period for which the majority of the film will be set in. The banana is a reoccurring prop used throughout the movie as a comical element, which makes a reappearance from the original movie Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. There's tense slow music and no editing in a scene that has been portrayed as the most humorous to attract the audience even more; therefore tempting them to watch it in cinema. This also highlights a separate time in their journey because it isn't part of the previous chaotic scenes, and the sound effects have successfully effected this transition. The music then alters into a more positive uplifting tune to convey this part as more exciting, and the turning point for Bob, Stuart and Kevin. The titles begin appearing from a zoom in to zoom out and bash onto the screen in time with the soundtrack as now introducing the film as a whole to the audience. Then 5 of the stars in the movie (the voices) tally onto the screen in the same colour as the title, which are one of the key selling points of this film trailer.
